Jewelry brand and omnichannel retailer Brilliant Earth, known for its ethical sourcing and classic-looking engagement rings, is branching out into a growing category in the industry: jewels designed without gender in mind.
The brand recently debuted the Mx Collection, a gender-neutral line of wedding and fine jewelry that the company describes as “a modern take on traditional fine jewelry design resulting in fresh, gender-fluid styles.”
The series is composed of four engagement rings and nine wedding bands, all available in platinum, 18k white and yellow gold, and 14k rose gold. All 13 designs are clean-lined but cleverly conceived, incorporating alluring textures, minimalist diamond pavé, gypsy-set gems, and low-set gem mountings.
The diamond solitaire Cielo ring is a good example of the collection’s aesthetics: It features an open bezel setting that is floated off to the side rather than centered and is attached to a low-domed band. It looks fantastic on women but is distinctly fashion-forward on men. And while the pleasingly jagged Zenith band, studded in pyramid-shaped angles, might be considered “masculine” by some, it makes a particularly chic style statement on smaller hands (see it below).
“We support all forms of love,” said Beth Gerstein, cofounder and co-CEO of Brilliant Earth, in a prepared statement. “Offering rings for everyone is an important part of our mission to inspire a more compassionate jewelry industry.”
The collection is available at Brilliant Earth showrooms and on brilliantearth.com. Prices for engagement ring settings range from $550 to $1,190, and $790 to $3,690 for wedding bands.
The Mx Collection’s Horizontal Petite Comfort Fit engagement ring, which boasts an east-west-set emerald-cut diamond, will be featured in the first major LGBTQ+ holiday romantic comedy film from a major studio: Happiest Season, directed by actress Clea DuVall and starring Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Levy, Mary Holland, Burl Moseley, Victor Garber, and Mary Steenburgen. The film debuts on Hulu Nov. 25.
The retailer also announced this week that it’s now offering extended sizing in rings, for the Mx Collection and for many of its core wedding styles. Shoppers can order rings in a size 10–12 online and in showrooms, for a fee that ranges from $50 to $100, depending on the style. Rings in sizes above 12 can be custom-ordered online and in stores.
