Bordeaux, burgundy, oxblood. Dark reds like these make an appearance every fall, some years more prominently than others.
This is an “on” year for the rich, dramatic hue, which has been popping up everywhere on Instagram and TikTok, and in stores. We’re seeing it in classic, forever pieces—clothes that support quiet luxury dressing—and they’re buildable, which offers awesome monochrome potential (think cabernet-color pants with a matching, or slightly off color, sweater).
In jewelry, dark red is rampant, and it’s always in style. A fantastic garnet is an excellent example, as is a deep ruby or spinel, and a vintage carnelian is spot-on too.
The color is both mysterious and chic, stately and sexy. It’s powerful but not quite so loud as a true red; it sort of sums up the notion of quiet luxury: elegant and superior, but not shouting it.
Here are some of the latest jewels in the most coveted shade of the season.
