Bonhams will host an auction on Oct. 8 in Los Angeles, showcasing The Legacy of a Stateswoman: The Personal Collection of Senator Dianne Feinstein. The collection honors the life and career of Feinstein, a trailblazing U.S. senator from California who served from 1992 until her passing in 2023, becoming one of the longest-serving women in the Senate. Known for her pragmatic leadership and commitment to progressive causes, Feinstein left an indelible mark on American politics, breaking barriers for women along the way.
Featuring a 74-piece jewelry collection that Feinstein wore throughout her political career and personal life, the auction will also include furniture and design objects from her residences in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Aspen, alongside American art and memorabilia.
“Jewelry was incredibly special to Dianne Feinstein, and it’s rare to find images of her without classic strands of pearls, diamond studs, and her signature senator pin,” said Emily Waterfall, director of jewelry at Bonhams Los Angeles, in a statement. “Her collection embodies refined sophistication, featuring pieces from renowned jewelry houses such as Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., Cartier, and Buccellati, as well as some unsigned items. Her jewelry box is a testament to her style—elegant yet understated—ensuring that her jewels complemented rather than overshadowed her role as a leading figure in American politics.”
Among the sale’s highlights is a platinum and diamond ring (pictured at top), featuring a 4.14 ct. round diamond flanked by tapered baguette diamonds. The ring, a reflection of Feinstein’s refined taste, is expected to fetch between $45,000 and $65,000. Also of note is an 18k white gold and diamond necklace, featuring three rows of links boasting approximately 25.5 cts. of round diamonds, estimated between $12,000 and $18,000.
The collection offers a rare glimpse into the personal life of one of the most influential women in American politics, combining historical significance with elegance that stands the test of time.
