The Showstopping Pieces in Bonhams’ Upcoming Paris Jewels Sale

Share

Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr is set to bring extra sparkle to the City of Light on Oct. 23 with its highly anticipated Paris Jewels auction. The sale will showcase dazzling designs from the world’s most prestigious jewelry houses—think Cartier, Boucheron, Bulgari, Tiffany & Co. (including pieces by Jean Schlumberger), Van Cleef & Arpels, Buccellati, and Christian Dior—spanning the glamorous art deco era to modern day.

The crown jewel of the auction is a circa 1930 Cartier desk clock  (pictured at top) featuring a mother-of-pearl dial with diamond-set Roman numerals and a fan-shape hour hand in diamonds. The clock is encased in coral bands outlined in black enamel and perched elegantly on an onyx and gold base. This rare beauty is expected to sell for 120,000 to 180,000 euros, or approximately $130,000–$200,000.

Another highlight of Bonhams’ sale is the diamond solitaire ring from 1935 pictured above. It boasts a 17.19 ct. brilliant-cut stone of VS1 clarity and is estimated to fetch between 80,000 and 120,000 euros, or roughly $87,000 to $130,000.

“Additionally,” said Marine Girardet, the auction house’s head of jewelry in France, in a statement, “Bonhams will be allowing the prestigious jewelry institution Haute École de Joaillerie exclusive access to the jewels on October 19, where the students will create bespoke gouache drawings of some of the notable lots, including a Cartier desk clock, Cartier stylized duck clip, Bulgari sapphire necklace, and a Christian Dior fish brooch. The gouache drawings will be included with the accompanying lots at the auction.”
