On Sept. 26, Bonhams auction house is hosting an intimate sale in New York of 61 fine jewelry lots, Exceptional Jewels From a Distinguished Collection, that will feature several Oscar Heyman pieces, including a platinum “Birds in Flight” bracelet set with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and onyx (pictured above).
“We are privileged to present such a colorful offering in this single-owner auction,” said Caroline Morrissey, Bonhams’ director and head of jewelry in New York, in a statement. “The spectacular collection of Oscar Heyman jewelry showcases the ingenuity of his designs by creating timeless pieces that celebrate the natural beauty of these vivid colored gemstones. It is an honor to highlight a collection that truly has everything: impressive diamonds, vibrant colored gemstones, and classic jewelry designs.”
Headlining the Oscar Heyman selections is the “Birds in Flight” bracelet, depicting a scene of tropical birds and flowers made with approximately 6.55 cts. t.w. circular-cut diamonds, along with colored precious gemstones. A superb example of the craftsmanship the designer (known as “the Jeweler’s Jeweler”) was famous for, the bracelet is expected to sell for $80,000 to $120,000.
Other notable lots in the auction include “a stunning 12.22-carat old mine brilliant-cut diamond pendant necklace and a 9.05-carat step-cut diamond ring that is IIa, meaning the purest of diamonds,” said Emily Waterfall, Bonhams’ director and head of jewelry in Los Angeles, in a statement. “We are also thrilled to present the magnificent Oscar Heyman emerald ring, featuring one of the finest-quality stones I’ve ever had the privilege to handle.
“The single-owner collection is truly exceptional, representing a distinguished collection of colored stone jewels from a family with fabulous taste and a genuine passion for selecting and wearing fine jewelry,” Waterfall said. “The entire collection is chic, classic, and elegant.”
