Unlike its Virginia webroom, sales tax will not be an issue
Here’s an irony: The fastest growing jewelry chain in America right now may be Blue Nile.
The e-tailer plans to open its fourth webroom this summer at the Washington Square mall in Portland, Ore. This will be its first physical store on the West Coast.
Unlike another webroom also opening this summer in Tysons Corner, Va., this will not mean any difference in how Blue Nile collects sales tax from consumers, as Oregon does not have one.
Its first webroom opened in Garden City, N.Y., last year. That will be followed by webrooms in White Plains, N.Y., and Virginia.
The company has said it plans to open three to four webrooms this year. The Oregon store will be its third; a company spokesperson declined comment on future plans.
