Canadian jewelry brand Birks has named actress Sophie Nélisse its new brand ambassador, furthering its longtime efforts to celebrate Canadian talent in its advertising. Nélisse (pictured) is a rising star known for her roles in Yellowjackets and Heated Rivalry, where she played Rose Landry, an actress and love interest for hockey player Shane Hollander.

Montreal-born Nélisse represents a “new generation” for Birks, the brand stated. Birks, which started in 1879, also said it wants its newest additions to the Dare to Dream collection to highlight its first boutique in Montreal.

The related campaign explores how jewelry becomes a reflection of the people, places, and experiences that shape people’s lives. Through photography and film, it captures the moments that give each piece its meaning and how jewelry connects generations, Birks said.

Over the coming year, the campaign, which also will spotlight Birks Snowflake and Birks Beekeeper pieces, will continue to explore the emotional significance of jewelry.

The Birks Dare to Dream collection features jewelry in sterling silver and yellow gold in the brand’s signature mixed-metal link. Birks said that the design is meant to celebrate the beauty of contrast and the strength of connection.

In a statement, Nélisse said she considers Birks a part of her life, and the brand has one of those names that is timeless. “Now, being part of their story feels incredibly meaningful.”

“The pieces I wear most are the ones that have meaning. They’re the ones I reach for every day because they make me feel close to the people I love and the moments we’ve shared.”

“Birks has been part of Canadians’ most meaningful moments. Long after those moments have passed, jewelry becomes something more than what we wear. It becomes a reminder of the people we love, the milestones we’ve celebrated, and the stories we carry forward,” Birks head of marketing Katie Reusch said in a statement.

“We are incredibly proud to welcome Sophie to Birks. She represents a new generation of Canadians who have grown up with the brand and are now creating stories of their own.”
