It’s been just a bit more than two years since Icelandic jeweler Aurum was featured on this blog, having just released a new collection designed with men in mind.
Many jewelers have created their own takes on men’s jewelry since, though Aurum’s Griðungur still feels fresh and unique—a standout among many, many great releases these last several years.
Aurum now steps into the category of fine jewelry with an offering of wedding and engagement rings and pendants made in 14k yellow and white gold and featuring lab-grown diamonds.
The pieces are a natural extension of Aurum’s existing sterling silver collections, giving fans of the brand the opportunity to fold its aesthetic into their keepsake collections whether for commitment purposes or fashion wear.
If you’ve ever been to Iceland, you might recognize it in this line—while the designs are cohesive in many ways, they also differ from one to the next, an illustration of the country’s vast topography. Lava fields, glaciers, volcanoes, mountains, beaches, waterfalls, wildflowers—Iceland has literally everything, and while you’re likely to experience a rather chilly, rather damp vacation, it’s certainly one you’ll never forget.
That variety lives in Aurum’s jewels, for which designer Guðbjörg Kristín Ingvarsdóttir was inspired by the island’s memorable landscape and its unique flora and fauna. Perhaps most notable are the men and women’s Erika wedding bands: To commemorate the brand’s 20th anniversary, the rings stand out for their nature-inspired texture and organic-looking design.
“Erika encapsulates the spirit of Aurum’s origins,” reads the brand’s website. “Picture a picnic in the Icelandic countryside. A young girl fascinated by the delicate flowers, collecting them for her mother. And writing a fairy tale in her diary about her hopes and dreams.”
Modern consumers should love Aurum for its commitment to creating responsible jewelry. Production is based entirely in Iceland, a country that generates 100% of its energy through renewable sources. Each piece is made using recycled gold, and all stones—diamonds and colored gems—are lab-grown.
You can view the collection in its entirety on Aurum’s website.
