Atlanta Diamond Co., a southern branch of Philadelphia-based custom jewelry firm Philadelphia Diamond Co., opened its first location this week in Atlanta’s affluent Buckhead neighborhood.
And like the Philadelphia Diamond Co., the new concept specializes in one-on-one custom design services in a retail space that’s open six days a week, by appointment only.
Husband-and-wife owners Kenyatta Black, a second-generation jeweler and graduate gemologist, and Nicole Black, an MBA, launched the Philadelphia Diamond Co. in 2002. Prior to opening the northern store, Kenyatta worked for more than 12 years as a jeweler and gemologist with national retailer Littman Jewelers.
After 16 years in business, the couple was inspired to open a branch in Atlanta because “Atlanta is one of our favorite cities,” Kenyatta said in a prepared statement. “We’re elated to add to the [jewelry] options in the city.”
Atlanta Diamond Co. offers custom design and creations services, using CAD and 3-D printing, for engagement rings, wedding bands, and fine jewelry fashion pieces. The studio also offers Kenyatta’s proprietary queen-cut diamond, which adds more cuts to the traditional princess cut “for maximum sparkle.”
Repair services for watches and jewelry are also available, and the store carries a variety of gemstones (including lab-grown diamonds) and precious metals including sterling silver, 14k and 18k gold, and platinum for purchase.
Creating affordable custom pieces is a primary focus. The studio’s beautifully designed website includes the following note on prices: “It’s often assumed that custom jewelry costs more than mass-produced. However, by doing all our work in-house and selling direct to our clients, our bespoke custom pieces are often less expensive than branded designer lines.”
Speed of delivery, a very real modern concern for custom jewelers, is another focus for the studio; the Blacks strive to deliver custom pieces in as few as seven days.
The new Atlanta Diamond Co. is located at 3314 Peachtree Rd. in Atlanta.
