It’s not uncommon to be met with plenty of beach and sea-inspired fare as the months begin to warm, but there’s never a wrong time to be thinking about—and caring for—the ocean. The new Hidden Reef collection by Annoushka asks us to do just that, and it just so happens to be perfectly apt for the upcoming holiday season.
Though the jewels from Hidden Reef are clearly an ode to the sea—delicate golden waves and coral-like clusters summon visions of undersea reefs, inspired by designer Annoushka Ducas’ experiences with the ocean—it’s done so in a sapphire color scheme of orange and pink, wonderfully festive yet seasonless shades that make them very versatile.
“The sea is extraordinary, bustling with creatures, color, and these fascinatingly intricate forms,” said the designer on her website. “I decided I had to make a collection that honors the intense variety of life on the seabed, this unique ecology that we so rarely get to see.”
The jewels are all crafted in 18k yellow gold, and the majority of the collection features fancy color sapphires. There are also a number of pieces accented in diamonds—the Mussel pendant is a high-fashion delicacy, and the glittering Lattice bracelet is beyond. Pearls play their part, too, in one of my favorites of the collection: The Lattice earrings drape golden pearls sourced from a farm in the Philippine province of Iloilo in golden, diamond-dotted nets for a look that’s extremely elegant but with a whimsical touch.
Shoppers of Hidden Reef can look good and feel good, with 10% of each purchase from the collection in its first three months going to the No More Plastic Foundation, an initiative created to generate public awareness about plastic pollution and its impact on the environment.
“Having lived by the coast in Sussex for most of my life, the ocean has always had a special place in my heart,” Ducas is quoted saying on her website. “I hope this small step in raising awareness for No More Plastic brings to light the irreversible change we have made to the ocean floor and what we can do to help the cause.”
