Years of custom work by ethical-minded jeweler Ana-Katarina Vinkler-Petrovic of Boston has paved the way for a newly debuted signature style: minimalist curves featuring a literal or suggested pear-shape silhouette. The force behind AnaKatarina jewelry calls her premiere collection Venus in Furs, which is inspired by a pair of quirky tunes—the Velvet Underground song called “Venus in Furs” and Jun Miyake’s instrumental dubbed “Lillies of the Valley.”
“The Venus in Furs collection taps into the feminine mystique—the duality of the seductive and demure,” Vinkler-Petrovic says in an email interview.
Miyake’s “effervescent blend of staccato and jazz…with a hypnotizing elegance in its baseline,” she says, is evident in the yin and yang of Vinkler-Petrovic’s color choices (think rose and blue and orange and white) while palladium subdues the joyous shades of yellow and pink gold à la the somber tones of the Underground’s harmonies.
