Jewelry designer Alina Abegg’s first collection was a love letter to all things intergalactic that left JCK‘s Brittany Siminitz enchanted.
The Berlin-based designer’s second collection, titled Sugar High, is right up my alley: It’s a neo-Nutcracker candy land that transforms everyday sweets such as mints, coiled-up spirals of licorice, and lollipops into the most playful, modern pieces in the most mouthwatering colors.
And the gems Abegg has chosen to articulate her German candy shop theme are hand-carved by the world’s most prestigious stonecutters in Idar-Oberstein. Vibrant peridot, rubellite, lemony yellow agate, turquoise, and lavender chalcedony are just a few of the fruity “flavors” on offer, while black onyx and pink opal make excellent stand-ins for black and strawberry licorice.
I can’t know the nature of the sugarplums that are dancing in your head this holiday, but this is as close as it gets for me!
Top: Pfefferminz is a kind of Pez-shaped German candy and lends its form to a sub-collection of Sugar High, the new candy-inspired collection from Berlin-based designer Alina Abegg.
