In a break with tradition, the American Gem Society (AGS) is announcing the location of its next two Conclaves in advance.
While the location of the group’s annual networking and educational event is usually a tightly held secret until the gathering’s last day, AGS is now stating it will hold its 2022 Conclave in Oklahoma City, at the Oklahoma City Omni Hotel, April 25–27. And the 2023 event will be held in Louisville, Ky., May 1–3, at the Omni Louisville Hotel. Those two events will mark a return to AGS holding its Conclaves in the spring.
Before it gets back to its regular Conclave schedule, AGS is planning to hold its 2021 event in Dallas at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, Sept. 12–14. It will be the first AGS Conclave since April 2019.
The 2020 Conclave was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic—which was only the third time the Conclave had been called off in its 86-year history. The Conclave set for April 2021, originally scheduled for Louisville, was postponed until the fall.
The Dallas Conclave will include keynotes from the same group of speakers that were scheduled for the canceled Conclaves: actor Henry Winkler; innovation expert Josh Linkner; and aviator and news reporter Amelia Rose Earhart.
“One of our main goals as we plan Conclave is to provide a different experience each year,” Alexis Padis, chair of the AGS Conclave Committee, and secretary on the AGS board of directors, said in a statement. “[T]he host city of each Conclave is a huge part of what makes the annual experience so unique and special.… Members will even refer to their favorite Conclaves of the past by the city. Whatever town we are in becomes our home for several days.”
