A 3-D–printed bronze Quidditch ball has made this proposal go viral

Derrick James Walker proposed to his boyfriend with a ring, of course—but what made the proposal really special was the ring box, or rather, the golden ball.

The story of Walker’s proposal has quickly spread on the Internet due to his unique choice of container for the ring. To make the proposal extra special, Walker created a 3-D–printed Golden Snitch out of bronze and nestled the ring inside (In Potter lore, the Snitch is one of three balls used to play the game Quidditch).

Walker and his now-fiancé are huge Harry Potter fans. In fact, the proposal happened at the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter park at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla.

This isn’t the first time a Snitch has made a splash. In 2015, we featured a Snitch-inspired ring that had likewise taken the Internet by storm.
