During the most sweltering points of summer, it’s difficult to imagine wearing much more than the most lightweight clothes we own, never mind pulling it all together with extra layers and accessories.
So just like the season’s most desired attire, one’s jewelry selection is preferably simple, light, and effortless. You could opt for a pair of hoop earrings when your hair is piled high off your shoulders; select a simple chain necklace to add a glint of sophistication to your office ensemble; or even go for an anklet with freshly pedicured and sandaled feet. Rings can be a bit trickier: When the weather is hot and sticky, fingers tend to swell, making any sort of statement ring wearing—particularly when the band is on the thicker side—somewhat difficult and even downright uncomfortable for some.

So how about bracelets? You could pile them on and have an arm party, but the thought of wearing a ton of jewelry sounds high maintenance and cumbersome, in my opinion (though does a true jewelry lover ever let uncooperative weather determine how much bling they flaunt? I think not!). By the way, if you’re looking to accessorize yourself and your baby, check out this article on gold bangles for babies by my colleague Amy Elliott.

Still, in the interest of breezy, effortless style, might I suggest a single gold bracelet? Yellow gold is beautiful all year round (obviously), but in the summer, it echoes the warmth of the sky. It glows against tanned skin, catches the light of the setting sun, and dresses up even the most casual of outfits (yup, even the muumuu and rubber flip-flop ensemble).
So take stock of the golden bracelets, bangles, and cuffs for your store—the thinner, the better—‘tis the season to be wearing them!
