From alphabet charms and the most covetable huggies to a certain unicorn signet ring, JCK’s editors have thrown a lot of Mother’s Day ideas your way, and there are more coming your way right here.
I edited this Mother’s Day gift guide with a bunch of moms in mind, thinking about what they might want to hear on this pandemic-era occasion. (Spoiler: Not a single one involves a COVID-19 conspiracy theory.)
The fact is, most of us moms just want to be told that we’re doing a good job.
We want an acknowledgment that parenting, teaching, and working a job in a chaotic environment, with a world of danger lurking beyond our front door—and limited frozen vegetables at the grocery store—is a grueling hardship/abnormality and that our efforts are appreciated.
Other mothers may want to know that they are missed and loved and longed for—social distancing has forced many of us to say adieu temporarily to in-person time with Mom, even if we are separated geographically by mere miles.
Certainly, essential workers deserve extra-special expressions of gratitude this year.
And whether your budget is $200 or $2,000, any mom who has been holding it together as she (sort of) smiles through the crisis but feels unspeakably overwhelmed is deserving of a jewel that brings comfort, strength, or just a momentary heart flutter of joy and excitement.
I’ve organized my picks into categories. Starting with some traditional hearts and other lovey-dovey trinkets that say it all, plus some classic, universally appealing pieces that are a sure thing if you’re not sure of Mom’s style or have only 30 seconds to give the matter some thought.
Then I move into more specific ideas—jewelry that expresses what you cannot say and definitely don’t say enough.
Trust me, something sparkly—and eloquent—can really clear away the cobwebs. It can tell her that everything’s going to be okay. Make this the year she hears you.
