Given its proclivity for predicting future trends (the annual Pinterest Predicts report is always a favorite read), Pinterest is taking the art one step further by offering a fresh take on the hottest hues of the year with its 2025 Pinterest Palette.
“The Pinterest Palette is inspired entirely by Pinners—what they’re searching, saving, and shopping for on our platform,” said Xanthe Wells, vice president of global creative at Pinterest, in a statement. “But it’s made for creatives like you. Use the palette to inspire your mood boards, your shot lists, your merchandising assortments—even your product development ideas. We can’t wait to see how our colors inspire your marketing in 2025.”
The color lineup consists of five compelling hues—Cherry Red, Butter Yellow, Aura Indigo, Dill Green, and Alpine Oat—determined by the platform’s data and visual search technology. Missing from the lineup is any sort of brown, despite Pantone’s declaration—but perhaps Alpine Oat, a creamy shade with a hint of tan, complements it well.
Inspired by Pinterest’s Cherry Coded trend from its 2025 Pinterest Predicts report, Cherry Red is a bold and rich shade akin to a dark garnet or ruby.
Butter Yellow is sweet and light but refined, pastel but not too Easter-y, if one can imagine. The best match might be a light yellow diamond, or the rare yellow jade.
Aura Indigo sounds like it might be more on the blue-purple plane, but it’s actually a light purple—”lilac, but with an edge,” according to Pinterest. A light amethyst or lavender jade might be ideal matches, or a fabulous purple spinel.
Dill Green is a refreshing and universally pleasing hue, and Pinterest promises it will take over kitchens, wardrobes, and cocktails. As for gems, the best match may once again be jade—is 2025, perhaps, the year of jade?
Finally, the neutral Alpine Oat. Smooth and creamy, its opacity is evocative of the solid mineral gemstones currently in favor, both fair in color and not.
