The Pink Promise, a 14.93 ct. fancy vivid pink oval, scored $32.1 million at Christie’s Nov. 28 auction in Hong Kong, setting a new per-carat record ($2.15 million) for a pink diamond.
The buyer was anonymous. The price fell in the middle of its $28-million to $42-million estimate.
The news will likely be greeted with a sigh of relief by jewelry auction watchers after a pair of pinks drew mixed results earlier this month.
The diamond was recut by Menlo Park, Calif., jeweler Stephen Silver from a 16.21 ct. fancy intense pink in order to maximize its color.
