Stacking rings and stacking bands are a trend with staying power and have now become a sort of pantry staple to buy in bulk. Already a perennial item on every savvy retailer’s shopping list, there’s little room for innovation. But the next generation of stacking bands has entered the mainstream, and its shape is slightly curved or, more often, comes to a sharp, V-shape point (i.e., a chevron).
Because it can be difficult to assemble a seamless ring stack (unless the different elements were designed to be worn as an interchangeable set), chevron shapes allow for plenty of breathing room on the finger so that you can easily slide on whichever style, or styles, you choose. Worn point up or point down, chevrons also create an attractive frame for the assembled rings.
The look, illustrated below, hovers somewhere between edgy/modern and gypsy chic/romantic.

The chevron band no doubt stems from the bridal category, in which ring “guards” or “border rings” worn on both sides of the engagement ring have been a popular two-piece wedding band option for several years. And when these guard rings dip down in a subtle U- or V-shape, they can nest with stones that sit close to the finger, as in this example from Megan Thorne.
Chevrons, sometimes taking the form of crowns or tiaras, range from versatile gold-and-diamond styles to more striking, stand-alone designs set with rubies and opals. Time to stock up!
