The Pantone Color Institute has gone easy on the jewelry trade with its 2022 pick for color of the year. In selecting Very Peri—“a dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet red undertone” that combines “the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red,” according to the Carlstadt, N.J.–based institute—the color authority has chosen a hue that could, in theory, describe a number of gems across the price spectrum.
Whether it’s brought to life by iolite, tanzanite, or blue sapphire, Very Peri is something of a chromatic cipher. It evokes the shades used in gaming as well as those prevalent in Mother Nature and wellness therapies (think lilac and lavender). The hue is at once calming and energizing, and, as Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, recently told Vogue, “It is a color that really places the future ahead in a new light.”
Now that’s something we can all get behind! Below, we’ve assembled a collection of new jewels that epitomize Very Peri’s chameleonlike palette. Whether they feature more blue-forward hues or those that lean toward the purple/violet end of the spectrum, they are united by one quality: very pretty, indeed!
