Don’t be discouraged by the outdated and Portuguese-only
website, lack of a U.S. sales rep, or, Brazilian-only show itinerary of
Guilherme Duque, the 54-year-old design house now run by Roseli Duque; the
firm’s wide and deep inventory of festive and feminine gold jewelry offers a
compelling reason to visit Feninjer, and see the line in person.
For sure, beautiful enamel work—softer in style and with
more unique color combinations than that of many other makers—is a signature
look, but so are playful variations of ribbon motifs and flowers, the latter
not too surprising since it is a Brazilian firm. But it’s the extra details in these flowers that make them stand out;
for example, thick gold coils and bouquets of bezel-set diamonds comprise
stamen with cartoon-like silhouettes that still suit the designs.
Plus, Duque is such a prolific artist that I can’t help
but wonder if market visits to her booth should be accessorized with red-and-green-sided
paddles—much like the ones Brazilian steakhouses give to patrons—to indicate when
you’ve had your fill. Let’s just say that if trays of jewelry were Churrasco, you’ve be ready to burst within the first 20 minutes of your appointment.
