It’s always a little bittersweet when a great week filled with jewelry comes to an end. The lights dim on the show floor, cases are disassembled, and exhibitors from all over the world begin their journeys back home. The sweet part, though, is the look back. I could spend hours scrolling through the shots taken throughout the week, reminiscing about favorite pieces. Naturally, I find a handful of common trends while swiping from picture to picture. In years past, standouts have been slice jewelry, colored diamonds, a touch of rose gold in bridal, and so on. Here are some of the biggest looks from this year.
Rose gold bridal. This year, I think probably the biggest standout for me has been bridal crafted entirely in rose gold. I was told by many that with the success of the mixed rose and white looks, the decision to create pieces in all rose gold seemed like a no-brainer. And the success exhibitors have been seeing with those creations is phenomenal.
Sea life. Nautical reigns supreme with the budding summer weather, and this year I saw more oceanic-inspired jewels than ever. From anchors to sea turtles, dolphins, and starfish, designers presented varied takes on the best from the sea.
Reds and pinks. Who isn’t loving everything pink right now? But just in case it’s too feminine for some, the slightly bolder, complementary red is just as in demand as the girly shade, from powdery pink to Pepto Bismol to fuschia, paired with bright purplish red and sweet dark wine. Pink sapphire, spinel, and rubellite were the gemstones in the spotlight.
Stackables. Stacking rings and bangles are still huge, and, as a matter of fact, they’re probably even more popular than they were last year. Designers and suppliers brought along traditional thin bands and complete wedding-set looks, while others opted for chunkier, bigger styles. Delicate or daring, stack ’em up.
Purple. The year of Radiant Orchid is in full swing as evidenced by the wide array of amethyst, iolite, and more seen on the show floor. Could it be that I’m noticing it more, simply due to the prominence of Pantone’s Color of the Year? Perhaps. Still, the pattern was there and in some very intriguing jewelry designs.
