You couldn’t turn the corner at the Las Vegas shows without seeing enamel rings, pendants, earrings, or bracelets. Not that we’re complaining!
Of all the trends we spotted in Vegas this year—green gemstones, gold medallions, animal jewelry (butterflies, anyone?)—enamel might have been the most ubiquitous…and certainly the most accessible. Of course, enamel jewelry has been on the upswing for a couple of years now. But has it ever been more colorful or more varied—style- and price-wise—than now?
“Consumers are looking for fine jewelry that can be worn more casually and styled in different ways,” says Melissa Kaye, the New York–based designer whose name is pretty much synonymous with chic and colorful enamel pieces. “When paired with 18k gold and diamonds, enamel gives jewelry a more relaxed feel, making it more wearable for every day.” Plus, she adds, “it offers a different textural element, and the color options are endless.” Recently, Kaye used her signature neon enamel as a jumping-off point for her one-of-a-kind Lenox designs, which combine that eye-poppingly bright enamel with what she calls “equally fluorescent gemstones.”
Take it from Kaye and these other brands—with enamel, the jewelry possibilities are almost endless.
