It may seem strange that a city I’ve yet to visit has stolen my heart, but there’s something about New Orleans that has an undeniable, irresistible pull for me. I’ve dreamed of visiting since I fell in love with Louis Armstrong and Cajun cuisine. (I’d finally had enough of dreaming and booked a ticket. In six months, here I come!) I think the thing about New Orleans—particularly during Mardi Gras—is the way it lives out loud, with its celebrations, spirituality, and hospitality, which all seem so contagious and welcoming to people near and far. And so as we all celebrate today, I am inspired by this pair of earrings from Yoko London. They are, let’s say, abstractly NOLA to me. The kiss of a fleur-de-lis—a symbol of New Orleans—shimmering in pavé diamonds serves to anchor three South Sea pearls—two golden, one white—in each ear. They’re reminiscent of details found throughout the Crescent City, in its iron gates and haunting architecture of eras past, rich with royal French influence. The chandelier-style settings are like something you’d find hanging from the ceiling of a grand estate—though I’d much prefer them hanging from my ears, wouldn’t you?
