Our most recent coverage of the powerhouse jewelry brand that is David Yurman was a recap of a presentation by cofounders David and Sybil Yurman during NYC Jewelry Week 2019.
At the time, the opening of the brand’s new flagship location on New York’s 57th Street was just weeks away. “It’s really an emporium,” Sybil said during the talk. “People are aware of the brand of David Yurman. But they are really not aware what the house of David Yurman is. The house of David Yurman is very all-encompassing. It goes from pieces in the million-dollar range and high jewelry and very fine diamond work. This store will reflect and give respect to every category of the business.”
Officially open as of late last week, the new space does indeed showcase the full range of categories, including high jewelry, women’s, men’s, wedding, and watches.
But more importantly, it’s an emblem of a new era for the brand. Especially when you consider that the design of the store was overseen by chief creative officer Evan Yurman, David and Sybil’s son.
“57th Street for us was a big step,” said Evan in this video (all of the comments that appear in this post are pulled from this content). “It was stepping on to the world stage in Manhattan. The fact that we are the only American family-owned business on the street is a really big thing, especially in New York, our own city, where we grew up…it’s a beautiful thing.”
Evan worked in collaboration with architect Michael Gabellini of Gabellini Sheppard Associates, who also designed the David Yurman Townhouse on Madison Avenue and 63rd Street, which opened in 2010 and is now permanently closed. Together they have created a store design that reflects the house of David Yurman’s unique heritage and the family’s journey from art to jewelry. Three floors, more than 5,000 square feet, and a curated assortment of exclusive, limited-edition pieces are just a few of the specs and features.
A distinctive rose gold–hued facade defines the exterior. “I look at this store as an extension of a piece of jewelry that I might create, something both familiar and modern,” said Evan.
The flagship will also feature innovative technology, including four video walls on different levels, mobile points of sale throughout, and wireless charging stations integrated into furniture in the private salon spaces. In addition to white-glove, same-day delivery throughout New York City and car services to bring top clients to the store, the flagship will offer an on-site jeweler for services such as resizing, repairs, and consultations for custom designs.
“It’s an open, optimistic, airy, inviting place, just like our business, just like our jewelry, just like our family,” said Evan.
