On March 3, Carlos Parra, 64, owner of Master Diamonds on 47th Street, pleaded guilty to buying and transporting jewelry he purchased from an armed robbery ring, according to an FBI news release.
In court, Parra admitted he flew to Atlanta in 2013 to buy items from a crew that stole over $100,000 in jewelry from a courier, the FBI said. He paid approximately $16,000. He also was charged with buying over $500,000 in jewelry from a Houston crew in August 2012. He was later said to have sold the items to New York wholesalers for a profit.
The two counts of transporting stolen property could mean up to 10 years in prison. He also agreed to surrender his New York State secondhand dealer’s license and, as a condition of supervised release, agreed to not seek reinstatement of his license and to have no dealings in the precious metals or gems industry.
