Every year a brand or store stays in business is cause for celebration, but milestone birthdays come with their own bit of fanfare. They also tend to be acknowledged in increments of 10.
Not so for Rosanne Karmes, founder and designer of the Los Angeles–based line Sydney Evan, which just released a special collection commemorating its 18th anniversary. Eighteen is a number beloved by Karmes, who considers it lucky, and a symbol of life, hope, and all that is good in the world. (The number 18, or chai, is also a spiritual number in the Jewish faith.)
Called the Token of Love collection, it encompasses innumerable symbols and icons, all united by themes of upward driving forces, abundance, prosperity, and eternal love.
One of these is a stylized flame shape, which doesn’t just speak to everlasting love—an eternal flame, if you will—but also a kind of fiery heat, what Peggy Lee was getting at when she sang, “You give me fever.” That the pieces are packed with such sentiments make them exceptionally romantic and powerfully sexy holiday gifts.
A lovely way to burn, indeed. Highlights below.
