After three decades of behind-the-scenes work, Bella Campbell debuted her own Campbellian Collection in fall 2014. An immigrant from Georgia, Campbell moved to the U.S. with a degree in physics in 1980, trading science for jewelry when she secured a post at Fortunoff in Manhattan. She eventually moved to Macy’s as a buyer, secured degrees in fashion merchandising and gemology, and then took a position at Kaiser Gems, where she stayed for 26 years selling gemstones. But after creating stone compositions for others for so long, Campbell longed to flex her own creative muscle. She dug into a personal stone stash acquired over the years to make a pair of earrings that won her a Spectrum Award in 2013. Inspired, she moved forward designing more one-of-a-kinds, some of which took home three more Spectrum Awards, and helped to accessorize looks from clothing designer B. Michael America’s Fall 2015 runway show.
