When fashion and fine jewelry design collide on the runway, the overall effect is a lot more compelling. The right jewelry adds an intriguing layer to the narrative, whether it’s radical pearls and mega chains or giant cocktail rings.
When it’s a bridal runway, the preference is for jewels that are more understated so as to not compete with the embellishments or silhouette of the gowns.
But at a minimum, you’ll need some engagement rings, and a thoughtful styling team will want even these small details to align with the look and feel of the fashion.
Which is why, at last Friday’s Amsale fall 2020 presentation during New York Bridal Fashion Week, the models were seen wearing gold-and-diamond rings by the Los Angeles-based line KatKim.
Founded by the late Amsale Aberra, Amsale is a brand known for clean, structured shapes (even if it’s a rather voluminous ball gown) and elegant simplicity punctuated with a single, striking detail, like an asymmetrical bow at the back, dainty buttons on a sleeve, or a classically draped and sculpted strapless bodice.
KatKim designer Katherine Kim likewise takes the traditional diamond solitaire engagement ring and finds subtle but effective ways to make it feel fresh and modern, whether it’s setting the stone in an octagonal bezel or doubling a slender band so that some skin shows through on the finger.
