Mary Beth West, a longtime board member at J.C. Penney and former head of marketing for Kraft Foods, has joined the retailer as executive vice president and chief customer and marketing officer.
West will step down from the board as part of her new role.
West has been a member of the J.C. Penney board since 2005. She previously worked as executive vice president and chief category and marketing officer for Kraft Foods.
In addition, Kirk Waidelich, a 28-year company veteran, has been promoted to senior vice president, sales promotion and marketing. He most recently served as vice president of marketing strategy.
In a statement, Penney CEO Mike Ullman hailed West for her contribution in “building an emotional connection with our customers.”
