If you’ve read “The New Diamond Basics,” my story in the July/August issue of JCK, you know that we said the tennis bracelet is being replaced by chunky pavé diamond link bracelets as an alternative classic with modern appeal.
But at least one cool-girl jewelry designer is still a fan of the original. And given her solid track record when it comes to creating jewels that stylish women want to be wearing, I was ready to give Jennifer Meyer’s take on the tennis bracelet my full attention.
What I like is that the Los Angeles–based designer’s fall/holiday lookbook is filled with what I would describe as tennis bracelet hacks—subtle, clever tweaks on the archetypal style, from slender flexible cuffs and bar-set baguette situations to superlong “studs” that dangle a trail of prong-or bezel-set diamonds.
And now, I’ve never wanted a tennis bracelet more (actually a trio would be nice). Plus, there’s something about September, and the electric, hard-court excitement of the US Open (the women’s semifinals are tonight—good luck, Serena), that makes you want to celebrate this kind of jewelry (and my colleague Brittany Siminitz is clearly in agreement).
And my favorite hack? When Meyer recasts some or all of the diamonds as colored gemstones. I mean, an all-turquoise tennis bracelet? That is just so appealingly simple and charming and, for some reason, feels really fresh.
On or off the court.
