Nordstrom has added a new position to its leadership ranks—and is filling it with a company veteran.
The retailer announced last week that Teri Bariquit (pictured), who has been with Nordstrom for 33 years, has stepped into the new role of chief merchandising officer.
Bariquit is now a member of the company’s executive team and will lead the full-price and off-price merchandising, according to a statement from Nordstrom issued last week. She will report to copresident Pete Nordstrom.
The merchandising vet has spent a significant part of her career at Nordstrom “supporting the evolution and continuous improvement of all aspects of the merchandising organization,” according to the same statement. Since 2012, she has been the executive vice president of merchandising planning and solutions, where she supported planning, inventory deployment, solutions, and strategic capabilities across all channels.
“I’m excited to work with the entire merchandising organization as we continue to execute on our customer strategy in this rapidly changing retail landscape,” said Bariquit in the statement. “We must move with speed and leverage data-driven strategic insights to meet customers’ needs, and I’m thrilled to take on this new challenge alongside a world-class team.”
Pete Nordstrom, who along with his family has reportedly been trying to increase his family’s stake in the company, says Bariquit has been an integral part of the development of the merchandising team. He added, “Over the years, Teri and I have worked closely together to create strategic partnerships with our valued brands, and I’m pleased with the continuity she brings to these relationships. During her 33-year career with Nordstrom, Teri has demonstrated unparalleled understanding of our customer needs and has an excellent grasp of the complexities of our industry. Merchandising is in her DNA, and I’ve consistently been inspired by her ability to reimagine the future.”
Nordstrom operates 380 stores in 40 states.
