When your store is based in a resort area with a clearly defined high season, an action-packed event and trunk show schedule is key. Earlier this summer, we checked in with CB Stark on Martha’s Vineyard; now we’re off to Sag Harbor, N.Y., to visit not a jewelry store but Havens by KVD, a chic lifestyle boutique selling everything from fine art to aromatics to Assouline coffee-table books.
Owned and operated by Kim-Van Dang, former beauty director at InStyle, and a fashion/accessories editor at WWD for many years, Havens opened just last fall and caught my attention recently when Dang posted this photo on Instagram. The ring is from the My Story by Jackie Cohen line, a collection that’s been flourishing since it launched in 2015. (In fact, JCK covered the launch right here).
Dang discovered My Story via an introduction from the owner of one of her other accounts, Spinoza eyewear.
And ever since the jewelry landed in Havens on Aug. 1, “Our clients’ reaction to these modern heirloom designs has been off the charts,” says Dang. On that very first day, for example, a customer snapped up the Cassidy ring (pictured below), which happens to be the most expensive ring in the assortment.
And this Saturday, Aug. 17, Havens is hosting a shopping cocktail party with Cohen and her jewelry. The line began as “cool mom’s jewelry and birthstone pieces” (according to our interview with her in 2015) inspired by Cohen adopting her daughter, Julia. The colored gemstone pieces still resonate with women looking to mark milestones and commemorate journeys related to motherhood and beyond.
Preceding the party there will be a meet-and-greet with artist Meghan Boody, whose work is on exhibit at Havens through the end of the month. As both events have a storytelling component to them, Dang is encouraging Hamptonites (especially #moms and #momstobe) to hit both events back-to-back.
Sounds like you should make a day of it!
