The world’s biggest diamond miners are forming a new association committed to generic promotion of diamonds—which has been missing from the market since De Beers gave up that duty five years ago.
The Diamond Producers Association will be based in London, has a budget of $6 million, and is looking for an executive director.
Its mandate includes:
– maintaining and enhancing consumer demand and confidence for diamonds, including joint category marketing initiatives;
– providing a reliable source of industry information, including trade and consumer research; acting as the unified voice of the diamond producers within industry and without;
– communicating the role and contribution of diamond producers;
– sharing best practices in health and safety, supply-chain integrity, and environment management.
Founding members are Alrosa, De Beers, Rio Tinto, Dominion Diamond Corp., Lucara Diamond Corp., Petra Diamonds Ltd., and Gem Diamonds Ltd.
