A glorious wedding took place over the Fourth of July weekend, that of jewelry marketing professional Rebecca Moskal, who married in a Scottish castle straight out of a fairy tale. (See this interview with Moskal, one of many voices included in JCK‘s ongoing 150th anniversary celebration.)
Many in the jewelry industry were in attendance, which makes me imagine all the networking and creative brainstorming that must have happened over Champagne (and gourmet haggis!). Most jewelry industry pros love their work, and it’s hard not to mix business with pleasure. (For example, I spent the Fourth of July vacationing with family on Block Island but had to fit in an interview with a B.I. jewelry designer for a feature on this blog during my time out there. A jewelry writer is never off duty.)
Certainly the Los Angeles–based jewelry designers Maya Brenner and Sarah Hendler would agree with me. After meeting at the wedding of a mutual friend in Mexico City, they found themselves connecting over their love of jewels and mutual appreciation for each other’s unique design aesthetic.
They also discovered that they both had husbands in the restaurant industry. And after a little tequila, Brenner and Hendler’s friendship was sealed. Soon after the wedding, Brenner attended Hendler’s trunk show of curated estate and vintage pieces and wound up purchasing a simple pearl ring.
It ended up being the inspiration for the Maya Brenner x Sarah Hendler collection (shoppable here and here).
The four-piece capsule is focused on very simple pearl jewelry. Each of the pieces is handmade in Brenner’s downtown Los Angeles studio.
Born of a mutual respect and support for each other as female entrepreneurs, the collection embodies the perfect marriage (get it?) between the two designers’ aesthetics—Brenner’s timeless and effortless daily essentials and Hendler’s vintage-inspired pieces inflected with a sharp, contemporary edge.
Top: The Tres Pearl earring is meant to be worn as a single style. It’s based on a fibula—an ancient design used to fasten togas; from $125.
