With a name like Katie Diamond, how could this Ridgewood, N.J.–based jewelry designer choose any other career? Diamond debuted her namesake business in 2008, after taking goldsmithing, fabrication, soldering, and bezel-setting classes with Cecelia Bauer in New York City. Her husband’s family of diamantaires and manufacturers welcomed her into their fold and also furthered her education. Her signature style? A “focus on signature stone cuts and unique stone combinations,” she tells JCK. “I love stacking.” After sketching styles, Diamond enlists the help of two local bench jewelers to bring pieces to life through casting or fabrication in 14k gold, though other metals are available on request. “I also have a collection of 18k gold vermeil and sterling silver jewelry that is made in Jaipur, India,” she adds. Color is also evident in the line in opals, sapphires, turquoise, and more.
