Everything was awesome on my visit to the 2019 JCK Las Vegas show, which returned to its former home at the Sands Expo and the Venetian. Still a relative newcomer, particularly compared to many of my colleagues, this was my first experience at the show’s new (old) location, and I loved it.
Navigational ease was a major strong point this year, among many other things, and I hope you’re returning home with the good feels, too. But it wasn’t only the show’s new location that put a pep on my step. This year, while I spent my time trying to hash out some trends (which you’ll no doubt read about in future posts here on On Your Market), I kept coming back to this one thing: pure and simply, fun.
“This is the most fun I’ve had with any collection,” said Yael Designs Yehouda Saketkhou of his Toi & Moi collection. These colorful bracelets and rings beg to be stacked. I, for one, had a lot of fun mixing and matching them myself, and was most drawn to the emerald and black diamond version (above, left).
At Omi Privé (at top), a display that meshed Lego with fine jewelry showed retailers that a luxury price point can be whimsical and bright without taking itself too seriously. You couldn’t help but smile—and linger—at the fun details the team put into their miniature scenes. As ever, the jewels were looking really good, too. But if you know Omi, you already knew that.
At Ayva Jewelry, where Priyanka Kedia’s colorful assortment of acrostic styles glistened from the showcase, the Nova collection encouraged fun, but with a message: Embrace your life, go forth, be strong. I am woman, and I will embrace what I want in life. While also wearing really beautifully made jewelry. (You can read about the meaning behind Nova here).
At Rahaminov (above), a springy collection of bracelets were wrapped around my wrist with the flexibility of a Slinky, which, much like the Slinky’s motto, everyone loves. Including me.
A visit to Just Jules was exceptionally fun, as I got to play with the designer’s new collection of charms: a delicate assortment of gemstones, drilled through with a hole and pierced with sparkling pavé bails. I wrote about the opal version prior to the show, but I had no idea the assortment Julie had in store—including emerald and paraiba. She told me she had enjoyed the style so much, she began having a variety of her loose gemstones done in the same style.
The Greek Jewels @ JCK neighborhood had some particularly special treasures, including a patented design by Orofasma (above) that had its diamonds literally spinning. Jewelry you can play with! That is good stuff.
And at Andreoli (above), a ring designed to look like a flower, with specially cut coral “petals” that moved with each turn of the piece.
What fun did you discover at Luxury by JCK this year?
