The Bubble Gum Pink (pictured)—a 3.44 ct. cushion cut whose fancy vivid purple-pink coloring evokes the kid’s candy treat—fetched $7.52 million at the Christie’s May 28 Magnificent Jewels auction in Hong Kong.
The price breaks down to $2.2 million a carat for the internally flawless gem. That falls just within the ring’s $6 million–$8 million estimate.
The ring, by jewelry design house Moussaieff, also includes pear-shape pink diamonds and several marquise-cut white stones.
The other widely watched item, a pair of oil- and resin-free Colombian emerald earrings dubbed the Grand Muzos, sold for $4.4 million, or $96,000 a carat. That falls at the low end of their $3.8 million–$6.5 million estimate, though it garnered the auction’s second-highest price overall.
The two earrings weigh 23.34 and 23.18 cts. and come from the area of Colombia celebrated for producing the world’s finest emeralds.
