This week, we’re tracking wedding trends, getting crafty, shopping for Mom, and singing the blues with some of our favorite designers.
New York Bridal Fashion Week, Through April 16
You can’t sell engagement rings in a bubble—and that’s why New York Bridal Fashion Week matters. The shows kicked off last week and will wrap up on Tuesday. Naeem Khan’s press presentation is happening at 1 p.m., and that’s one we’ll definitely be trying to catch via Instagram stories or what have you. Last year, Khan dressed his bridal models in $14 million worth of Chopard, so here’s hoping the designer’s latest gowns (or jumpsuits, as the case may be) are likewise accessorized with bling of the highest order. Search #nybfw2019 and other related hashtags for a sense of how the pendulum’s swinging.
CraftBoston, April 14
Today’s the last day to catch CraftBoston at Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts. Come to discover new talent and reconnect with your favorite artists, including JCK editor favorites Elizabeth Garvin, Sam Woehrmann, and So Young Park.
And while you’re in Boston, pay a visit to the new Van Cleef & Arpels on Newbury Street, which opened just weeks ago. The boutique will be the first in the United States to house a Salon 1906, which showcases a curated selection of heritage and iconic pieces.
JIS, April 16–18
The Miami Beach edition of the Jewelers International Showcase gets under way at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Florida starting this Tuesday, and it’s a perfect opportunity to round out your Mother’s Day collections with some new finds.
“Once in a Blue Moon” at Aaron Faber Gallery, April 18–May 25
New York City’s Aaron Faber Gallery is unveiling a group exhibition featuring one-of-a-kind jewelry set with blue gemstones, including sapphires, turquoise, opals, chalcedony, lapis lazuli, and moonstone. The 21 participating artists and designers have submitted necklaces, earrings, and rings made expressly for the presentation. And with Alishan, Belle Brooke, Petra Class, Dana Bronfman, Keiko Meita, and Peter Schmid/Atelier Zobel among the exhibitors, the event’s almost like a JCK Tucson reunion.
