Are you in the mood to have some fun? I certainly am. I’m ready for something to make me smile, laugh, and—not to go all Marie Kondo on you, but—spark joy.
Jewelry definitely does that, but often, especially when one works in the industry, it gets analyzed and interpreted, each detail an important factor in determining its true value.
And that makes a lot of sense. Particularly when it comes to high-end pieces, as a retailer and as an end consumer, you want to be sure you’re getting involved with materials—and subsequent finished goods—that are worthy of your money.
What I love most, though, regardless of how “nice” it is, is when you can see a piece of jewelry and just feel an instant smile come over you. You’re not appreciating how rare the gemstone is, how many carats of diamonds it holds, how fine its features appear. You’re just glad to see it, in all its whimsy or good-natured presence.
And that’s not to say that the pieces featured here—ones that, to me, are just plain fun—don’t account for any of those superior qualities. Many are handcrafted by spectacularly talented designers and feature stones that even the most studious gemologist would go gaga for, created in fine metals that will stand the test of time. But I don’t need to think about or understand all of that to enjoy them, I just have to feel them work their magic on my mood. All of the rest—the good stuff that may justify their price, the materials you can be proud to have paid for—is just a bonus.
