I think that the combination of pink and red together is considered controversial, along the lines of navy blue and black and other alleged color faux pas, but if this pairing is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
When I first saw the Diamonds in Red collection from Greek jeweler Etho Maria Haute Joaillerie last summer I thought instantly of cherry and cotton-candy flavored jelly beans in the same ribbon-tied cellophane bag, bouquets of candy-striped tulips and Sarah Bernhardt peonies, this Emilia Wickstead gown, and jeweler Lauren Kulchinksy Levison giving it a go a few seasons ago in Delpozo.
In Diamonds in Red, the color red is articulated in a lickable, lipstick-shiny ceramic. The collection also includes pastel pink ceramic pieces and the two ceramic colors artfully, and so tastefully, placed in the same unique design. And did I mention the diamonds? Altogether these materials are a love letter to passion, glamour, flirtation, and the best kind of first-kiss levity.
At the moment, and likely because Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, I can’t think of anything I want to wear more. But shoes (thank you, Miuccia Prada for the idea) or Cosabella lingerie may have to suffice. I will also accept sweets of any kind.
I remember being mad about having pink and red shoes. I grew up envying other girls’ pink and red shoes. —Miuccia Prada
