Christmas and the holiday season is about so much more than the gift-wrapped, bow-topped treasures that you give and receive. Still, that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to do so.
I remember when I was younger and the catalogs started rolling in through the mail. It didn’t matter what it was—from the American Girl catalog to whatever the latest kid and tween fashion store was, when I got my hands on them, I started circling everything that caught my eye. It was all make-believe—paper window shopping. I knew I wouldn’t get a fraction of what I was marking off, but it was just fun to do so. It was probably more fun to check everything off, imagining what would be found under the tree, than to receive it all, anyway.
With my preteen catalog days behind me, I still enjoy a little list-making for the holidays. My tastes have just evolved to something a bit more adult—less scrunchies and stuffed teddy bears, more diamonds and gold.
So in the spirit of Christmas, I’m making my list today, stocked with some of the best jewels of the year, knowing that it’s just as much fun to imagine wearing one of these pieces as it would be to find one gift-wrapped and tucked into my stocking. Though, if Santa is reading this, perhaps I could request just one?
