The third annual Jewelry Industry Summit will take place at the Tucson Convention Center on Feb. 2–3, 2019, right before the start of the American Gem Trade Association’s GemFair.
The summit is an annual event that involves two days of discussions about responsible sourcing in the jewelry industry. This year’s event aims to discuss practical tools and resources that attendees can use to increase sustainability in the jewelry industry supply chain.
The event will also report on the progress of various initiatives hatched at prior summits as well as launch new initiatives.
In a statement, Jewelry Industry Summit board chairperson Cecilia Gardner said that this year’s event is “especially interested in attracting young and emerging jewelers to our community.
“The program will allow attendees to engage immediately in some form of action to improve our supply chain,” said Gardner, former president and CEO of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee.
Founded in 2016 with an event in New York City, the summit is a nonprofit grassroots organization. Participation in the event is open to all members of the trade who want to share their “perspectives, experiences, and ideas” about how to improve responsibility and ethics in the jewelry supply chain, according to its site.
Registration is $275, but students, anyone under the age of 25, and members of leading trade associations have to pay only $100. An early-bird discount of $225 is also available to those who register before Dec. 21.
Event sponsors include the American Gem Trade Association, Platinum Guild International, the Gemological Institute of America, and David Yurman.
