The undisputed highlight of what we now call Bridal Fashion Week (follow #NYBFW for everything you might have missed) was last Friday’s Naeem Khan presentation. A mainstay of the red carpet, Khan is known for his exquisite beading and embroidery and form-fitting silhouettes, and his spring/summer 2019 bridal collection was likewise focused on shimmer, shine, and sex appeal.
But Khan didn’t stop there. The designer went for the glamour full tilt, decking out the models in about $14 million worth of Chopard jewelry. The looks glistened from all angles, with flashes of rubellite and mandarin garnet and a gazillion diamonds and sapphires mingling with the flicker of bugle beads and beaded fringe.
Khan was inspired by the idea of a “rock star bride” using his muse to create not just gorgeous wedding gowns, but also a fierce pantsuit detailed with tonal embroidery, gilded mini dresses, and jumpsuits elaborately embellished with pearls and pailletes or gleaming with gold sequins. The kinds of garments one might wear to an all-night, Champagne-soaked soiree at the Chateau Marmont. Or the coolest of weddings.
L’Heure du Diamant collection pendant with diamonds in 18k white gold; High Jewelry collection earrings featuring 14.5 cts. t.w. rose-cut, pear-shape diamonds and 1.22 cts. t.w. single-cut diamonds in 18k white gold; High Jewelry collection diamond bangles with diamonds in 18k white gold; and High Jewelry collection ring with a 10.15 ct. heart-shape diamond and 3.69 cts. t.w. accent diamonds in 18k white gold
Clearly, the finest of jewels were required to realize Khan’s vision of a glamorous bride dancing till dawn beneath strobe lights or lounging on a velvet banquette with her friends once the old folks have left the reception.
Plenty of stars have paired Khan’s evening wear with Chopard jewels on the red carpet. The most memorable appearance of late might be Eve at the 2018 Grammys, who accessorized the designer’s ravishing Swarovski crystal–stripe suit with a mega diamond necklace from Chopard’s High Jewelry collection.
Could this red carpet moment be what inspired the two brands to collaborate on this bridal runway presentation?
Either way, we’d like to see one, or a few, of these Naeem Khan x Chopard looks re-created for an upcoming red carpet event. With the Met Gala and the Cannes Film Festival on the horizon, why not?
