One way to get your engagement video to go viral: Drop the ring the bay!

Greg Poole planned to propose to his girlfriend Sara Braud on a pier in Fairhope, Ala., but the ring rolled out of the box and into the bay, botching the romantic moment. Well, sort of. Poole lost the ring but got the girl, who said “yes” anyway.

The couple bought a new ring, but the story of the proposal, which was videotaped, spread, and last week the local search and rescue team offered to look for the ring while conducting a training exercise with new sonar equipment.

“One idea we actually talked about was, if the ring was recovered today, then we could probably put it a frame with all the stories,” Poole told the local Fox affiliate.

The ring was not recovered, though with the great attitudes on display by both the groom and bride, we have a feeling the pier will remain a monument to the moment and their love.
