I’ve been talking a lot about color lately—rainbows in pastel hues, for example—because that is simply what we crave this time of year. It makes total sense, as it mimics the pattern of our seasons: A colorless winter slowly, eventually—seriously, when is this happening?—gives way to the refreshing, soft hues of spring.
Despite my low tolerance for this winter weather (as I write this, it is officially the first day of spring, but Mother Nature has other ideas), I still find myself lured into a world of gray. It doesn’t have to be a depressing, colorless hue—I see it as more of a staple. (For the record, winter gray doesn’t have to be drab either, as beautifully demonstrated by my colleague Amy’s jewelry selections, here.) I find I’m drawn to gray in fashion (you can’t go wrong with a basic gray tee), housewares (like pillows and my new kitchen towels), even hair (this silvery trend might be inspiring some changes), so it’s not surprising that I would find gray jewelry to be equally—if not more—entrancing.
I’m slightly partial to the lighter shades and equally enamored with the speckled, salt-and-pepper stones, but there’s something for everyone who is okay with a brief departure from spring’s budding world of color.
