One of life’s greatest pleasures is when two of your deepest loves or interests combine. For me, this recent collision involves two things that occupy much of my time and thought: jewelry and the Disney parks. No, it’s not Pandora’s ever-growing collection of Disney charms. Rather, this involves one very hot color, and it isn’t Pantone’s Color of the Year: It’s rose gold.

I’m talking rose gold souvenir shirts, rose gold Mickey (or, I guess Minnie) ears, rose gold cupcakes—even rose gold churros. What prompted this obsession with the silky, satiny pink hue? I can’t be sure, but guests are going absolutely bonkers for it.
You can’t move fast enough to get your hands on one of these t-shirts, called spirit jerseys (seriously, I’ve tried, sigh). The rose gold cupcakes are all over Instagram (they really are cute).
I suspect the company has taken the success of its rose gold Minnie Ears sales and run with it—even I can admit that the powers that be at Disney are experts at spotting a tiny trend and squeezing every possible ounce of profit from it by taking it in every imaginable marketing and merchandising direction. In this case, it’s been applied to a number of highly profitable elements throughout its theme parks. I’m onto them, I know what they’re doing, but I’m a sucker for their games, anyway.
And so it’s left to us shameless Disney fans to get full-on involved in the rose gold rush, because it’s fun as hell to wear rose-colored glasses anytime and anywhere, but especially on a magical vacation. As for me, I’d like to up the ante by tacking on some rose gold jewelry.

Why should you care? Well, if Disney tells us anything, it’s either that it’s responsible for a number of market trends, or at the very least, really good at capitalizing on them, so if you thought rose gold was popular before, this further solidifies and even amplifies that fact. So while I wait for my spirit jersey to come back in stock (will it ever?), stock up on these rose gold jewels, stat.
