Macy’s, which has shuttered stores and grappled with 11 consecutive quarters of comparable sales declines, reported on Friday that its holiday sales, at least, are off to a stellar start.

The department store chain said it will be hiring an additional 7,000 temporary workers to deal with the robust pre-Christmas traffic in its stores.

“Macy’s has had a great start to this holiday season with high customer volume across our business,” said John Harper, the retailer’s chief stores officer, in a company statement.

“We are adding associates in our stores across the country to ensure that customers continue to receive the high level of service they have come to expect from us.”

The retailer announced in September that it would hire 80,000 temporary workers (including 18,000 slated to work in distribution centers) for the holiday season this year, which is down slightly from the 83,000 temporary workers Macy’s hired in 2016.

The National Retail Federation (NRF) reported last week that 174 million Americans shopped on Black Friday and over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, beating its early estimate of 164 million.

Retail analysts there and elsewhere predict a healthy holiday season for U.S. retailers.
