Nestled beneath the towering skyscrapers of bustling downtown, the swank and sophisticated Turgeon Raine has been a beacon for fine jewelry lovers in Seattle and the Northwest since its inception in 1982. Owned and operated by Norman Turgeon and Jerry Raine, the inviting and airy boutique—replete with warm wood touches, vaulted ceilings, and eye-catching window displays—acts as the custom jeweler for the gemstone-savvy. The store also proudly boasts the only selection of Patek Philippe timepieces in the state. 
 

At Your Service

“We are lucky to be in the happy business,” says store manager Richard Servis (pictured, right, with Raine). “We are often privileged to meet clients during the most wonderful times in their lives, be it an engagement, retirement, or other celebration.” This open attitude extends to all Turgeon Raine employees, who warmly greet new and longtime customers alike: Young couples drop by before popping the question; CEOs and tech gurus are regular visitors; and it isn’t rare to hear the pop of a Champagne cork as staffers celebrate a momentous purchase with a client.   

 

Real Gems

Contemporary yet classic: These adjectives aptly describe the glittering pieces throughout the store, which range from perfectly polished engagement and wedding rings—the majority designed in-house with the help of two master goldsmiths—to bold, fashion-forward necklaces resplendent in rose and yellow gold, not to mention the superbly designed, one-of-a-kind pieces that highlight an extensive collection of colored gemstones. (Just two such stunners: a natural green beryl necklace with handmade gold beads and a platinum and 18k yellow gold ring that stars a pristine sunburst-cut yellow sapphire.) From rings and bands to statement bangles and necklaces, Turgeon Raine’s signature aesthetic is feminine and graceful. “The proportions in jewelry-making are the same as in diamond-cutting,” Servis explains. “It should be beautiful from every angle.” In addition to its own designs, the store stocks posh collections from Italy (Marco Bicego among them) as well as platinum pieces from German brand Henrich & Denzel and Arizona-based Steven Kretchmer’s tension-set engagement rings. 

 

It’s the Little Things

The retailer keeps extensive records of every purchase so the next time a shopper needs a gift, the staff can recommend something that’s just right. “When clients come in for ring cleanings and such, we’ll work on wish lists and record the pieces they love and tuck it away for the next occasion,” Servis says. “Don’t worry—we’ll send anniversary reminders via email, too.”

 

A Piece of Work

If you have some time on your hands, don’t miss the in-store Patek Philippe boutique. Turgeon Raine is the only jeweler in Washington to sell the Swiss-made timepieces, which feature such thoughtful touches as self-winding mechanisms, sapphire crystal casebacks, and hand-stitched alligator wrist straps—a seemingly perfect fit for a store that’s equally attentive to detail.
