J.C. Penney has appointed James Starke as senior vice president and senior general merchandise manager of men’s apparel, children’s apparel, and jewelry, part of a larger shake-up of its merchandising division.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Starke currently serves as senior vice president, general merchandise manager, men’s and kids.
Pam Mortensen, longtime senior vice president and general merchandise manager for the jewelry division, will continue to oversee jewelry and report to Starke, according to a Penney spokesperson. Mortenson has been with the retailer since 2009.
As part of the shake-up, the position of chief merchant has been eliminated. John Tighe, who currently holds that title, will leave the company.
In addition, Jodie Johnson has been named senior vice president and senior general merchandise manager of women’s apparel, Sephora, salon, women’s specialty, footwear, and handbags. Val Harris will become senior vice president of product development and design.
